Imbanita has designed and developed an IoT solution to assist in improving effciencies of current smart irrigation systems for residential and agricultural purposes. The design makes use of soil moisture sensors placed underground which reports back the real-time moisture levels in the soil. The data collected by the sensors is transmitted wirelessly to the gateway, which is then forwarded to the cloud-based platform whilst controlling the operation of solenoids in the corresponding zones. This ensured the right amount of water to be used for the optimum growth of crops.
Results:
The IoT solution proved to be highly effective in the optimization of water usage and improving crop yields. The home owners were able to reduce water and electricity usage for irrigation by roughly 40% in a hot summer’s month according to weather conditions and calibrated settings.
Conclusion:
The use of IoT technology in agriculture has the potential to revolutionize the way farming is done. The case study discussed above shows how our IoT technology can be used to optimize water and electricity usage while improving crop yields. With water scarcity becoming an increasingly pressing issue in many parts of the world, our IoT technology can help farmers manage their water resources more eciently and ensure sustainable agriculture.
